Can't you turn that attraction thing off for an hour? You're going to piss off every man in the room if their dates can't keep their eyes off of you.
[ And it was going to look a little odd if his 'wife' was the only woman in the room who was capable of not looking at him like that. ]
no subject
and then he heard what she was saying and let out a disappointed sigh.]
It is what it is, darling. I can't 'turn off' being who I am. It's hardly my fault their men can't keep them satisfied enough to not wonder how green the grass is on the other side of the fence. It's to my everlasting despair that you don't look at me like that, especially since you know just how green that grass is.
[His hand slid a little further up her back, nose nudging her ear.]
You almost sound jealous -- as a good wife should. Feel free to start a catfight. I'd be more than happy to see that dress sacrificed for the greater good.
no subject
So she offered no counter on it as anything they would start into would sound like a newlywed already having trouble as a couple. It was something that would've been easy to use to their advantage, but she preferred not going that route to get closer to her suspect.
Still, she didn't immediately pull away from him, even as his nose nudged against her ear. ]
I'm not jealous. [ The statement was punctuated with a sharp nip to his earlobe, her way of taking advantage of his offer to bite back. Then her lips brushed against the same spot as she continued. ] If you sleep with any of them, make sure they're single or their dates are okay with it.
[ With that, she slowly pulled herself back and moved to return to the party. Because maybe, maybe, there was a tiny bit of jealousy there that she wasn't willing to own up to. ]
no subject
If I'm sleeping with anyone, de-- darling, it'll be you. Unless you'd like to add extras to the mix.
[That idea was intriguing, enough so that the frown vanished as he moved to follow after her, fingers lifting to trail along the curve of her neck as he took a sip of his drink. It wouldn't be the first time he'd been hit on while his attentions were directed at the detective; the player party came to mind, but after their night together, he felt he had more of a chance to succeed, and he had no intention of giving that up yet.]
I like when you get jealous. You're incredibly sexy when you look like you might punch someone in the face -- other than me, that is.
no subject
[ She bit back another comment as she walked away, though it wasn't long before he was behind her and that brush of fingers was enough to earn a slight shiver. The attention he got didn't bother her, really. She'd seen it happen almost every time the two of them were together and she was used to it by that point.
Though the rest of the times hadn't involved pretending to be married to him. And most had been before she'd known exactly why women gave him the looks they did. ]
I'm not jealous. [ She glanced at him as they came back into view of other people, her attention settling on him instead of the rest of the party as they remained out of earshot of most. ] What were you and Henry talking about earlier?
no subject
[His smile was brilliant as he settled alongside her, hand resting at her waist in that proprietary way men had of staking their claim without bashing others over the head. 'Mine. No touching allowed', that hand said, and while Chloe might claim not to be jealous, that didn't stop the looks of jealousy from being directed at her by the other women in the room.]
Oh, you know, this and that. Love and marriage and the swinging sixties and how helpful he's been in getting you sorted.
no subject
She settled for a soft sigh as she leaned into him, her gaze turning to wander the party as she ignored the looks she was getting. If anything was worse than that much attention on him, it was that much attention on her. And she was sure that he was enjoying it regardless. ]
We're only staying for another half an hour. Before we go, I'm inviting him to have dinner with us tomorrow.
[ Because if the rest of the party were part of the cult, she was sure her position as victim number four was already lined up. And she intended to test that as soon as possible. ]
no subject
['The basics' being truffle oil. Still, he didn't look the least bit upset with her leaning against him, playing into the little act by kissing the top of her head.]
I can bring you home something pretty tomorrow. That's what husbands do for their little housewives, isn't it? What do you say to a little bit of flash? Diamond earrings would be lovely, or perhaps a sapphire necklace? That would certainly bring out your eyes. I do enjoy you in blue.

[ How he managed to make her go from being somewhat jealous to wanting to strangle him was amazing. But the comment he made was enough to make her close her eyes and take a breath until that urge passed and she was just left with the distasteful thought of being his housewife. ]
If you're going to bring something home, make sure it's something I don't have to return once this is over. Flowers, maybe.
[ She lifted her head to glance up at him, smiling as she did. ]
I'm going to talk to Henry. Go mingle.
no subject
[Of course she'd push the cooking off on him, but truly, he didn't mind. It was one more of those little things that he felt proved to her he was more than just a dashingly good looking face.
She lifted her head and he crooked a finger under her chin, mouth moving close enough to almost kiss, but not quite. The tease of it was there, his thumb stroking over her chin.]
Enjoy. Don't leave me too long, someone might try to abscond with me to their bed. Several someones, by the look of it.
no subject
The tease of a kiss had her entire attention, but that did little to stop her from feeling the way some of the other women in the room were looking at her. If looks could kill and all...
Those stares would be the excuse she used, if she needed one, for the way she closed the space between them to press a kiss to his lips. ]
If you disappear, I'm locking you out of our apartment tonight.
no subject
I've no intention of doing any such thing. I've an agenda tonight, and it involves you. That, of course, goes double for you. No slipping away with certain someones without letting me know. Either so I can thrash him for hitting on my wife, or for trying to add you to his collection.
no subject
[ She smiled back at him before pulling away, giving him one last look before she moved away from him and walked off to seek out Henry. ]
no subject
[Said more to himself than her, eyes fixated on the way her hips swayed when she walked and how he knew they looked without that blue fabric covering them.
Before she'd gone far, two of the other women at the party came over to try to catch his attention, and while he was his usual charming and flirtatious self, his eyes indeed did keep wandering over to find his 'wife', the looks of displeasure that brought to his companions completely missed by him.]
no subject
The conversation was deliberately flirtatious, something she was surprisingly decent at despite how little she put it into practice for herself. She touched his arm, leaned in closer at times, laughed at jokes that weren't funny.
Then, after he'd reached out to push her hair back over her shoulder, she smiled and admitted that they needed to leave, offering up the invitation to dinner the following night as she did. ]
no subject
It wasn't until he saw the man reach out and actually touch her that those feelings won out over pride, Lucifer untangling himself from the touches and bodies around him, making his way over to stand alongside Chloe, arm sliding around her waist and tucking her in against him as he gave Henry a smile with a bit of an edge to it.]
Lovely party, but I'm afraid I've got to steal this one away for the evening. No rest for the wicked.
no subject
See? We have to run. But we'll be expecting you tomorrow night.
[ She said her goodbyes to him and to a couple of others before Henry insisted on leading them to the door and seeing them out, something she agreed to despite wanting to put space between him and Lucifer.
It wasn't until they were in the hallway again, the door closed behind them as she led them back to their apartment, that she spoke. ]
If I didn't know better, I'd think you were jealous back there.
no subject
Jealous? Me? Ridiculous. I'd merely prefer not to have my pretend wife pawed at by someone whose hands should be fed to them, that's all. Honestly.
[Though, the suggestion bothered him if only because he had no real idea of what jealousy was, beyond what others did in the name of it. Fact was, he couldn't quite name half the feelings he'd been feeling since Chloe had walked into his life and that left him a little short.
He went over to their door, opening it and holding it for her.]
Well then? Do you plan on living out here?
no subject
Then he held the door and her eyebrows arched as she stepped inside after him, waiting until they were closed inside and alone to speak. ]
You're jealous. [ It was a statement rather than a question and she still looked surprised by it as she shook her head, turning to move deeper into the apartment only pausing to remove her shoes. ] I can't believe you're jealous.
no subject
I'm no such thing. What am I supposed to be jealous of? That some supposed murdering psychopath is going to sweep you off your feet? Don't be ridiculous, Detective.
[There was a bite to his words he wasn't paying attention to, pouring himself a drink, the frown still fixed to his face.]
no subject
[ She turned back toward him, moving closer as he poured his drink and catching sight of the frown on his face as she did. His refusal wasn't much of a surprise considering her own, but it was the way that he seemed irritated by the accusation that got her. ]
You wouldn't be so bothered by this if you weren't.
no subject
[And why was that? Because the devil usually got whatever he wanted, Chloe being the rare exception in that she could, and did, say no to him. That she could choose another, implying he wasn't good enough. His eyes narrowed as he tipped back the glass, finishing the first drink and immediately pouring another.]
no subject
Fine, you're not jealous. It's better if you're not since you've got no reason to be jealous anyway. I'm not yours.
[ It wasn't an intentional bite, just a statement of facts. But she didn't mind the thought of it getting under his skin more than the evening already had. It was an odd reversal of roles to find herself not so bothered and him irritated, one that helped her see just how much he liked to push her buttons with the comments he made.
Sighing to herself, she left the room so she could head to her temporary bedroom to change clothes. ]
no subject
[Said quietly into his glass, Lucifer staring down at the liquid as if it could tell him what he needed to know -- what he didn't even know he wanted to know. He lifted his gaze to watch her go, the dress shimmering over her and reminding him of previous conversations. Which just reminded him of previous interactions, specifically, that night.]
If he touches a hair on your head again, Detective, I'll gladly make it my mission to give him the adequate punishment for his sins.
no subject
When she made her way back out to find him, she was wearing what she intended to sleep in - a t-shirt and pair of sleep shorts. What she slept in was the one thing she refused to budge on when it came to her wardrobe for her time on the case. ]
Ready to hear the plan for tomorrow?
