[ Henry was in the middle of talking to a small group of guests when she approached and joined them with a smile. But it didn't take long for the conversation to wind down and the rest of them to disperse, leaving her alone with him.

The conversation was deliberately flirtatious, something she was surprisingly decent at despite how little she put it into practice for herself. She touched his arm, leaned in closer at times, laughed at jokes that weren't funny.

Then, after he'd reached out to push her hair back over her shoulder, she smiled and admitted that they needed to leave, offering up the invitation to dinner the following night as she did. ]

[Oh, he was watching; watching her bat those lashes at another man and not entirely enjoying the sensation in his chest. There was a very real urge to go over and turn Henry's head round the other way, or quite possibly remove it all together.

It wasn't until he saw the man reach out and actually touch her that those feelings won out over pride, Lucifer untangling himself from the touches and bodies around him, making his way over to stand alongside Chloe, arm sliding around her waist and tucking her in against him as he gave Henry a smile with a bit of an edge to it.]

Lovely party, but I'm afraid I've got to steal this one away for the evening. No rest for the wicked.

[ If he'd come over any earlier, she might've considered it a bad thing. But his timing was perfect for once, though she could see the edge to Lucifer's smile and the look Henry gave him in return. ]

See? We have to run. But we'll be expecting you tomorrow night.

[ She said her goodbyes to him and to a couple of others before Henry insisted on leading them to the door and seeing them out, something she agreed to despite wanting to put space between him and Lucifer.

It wasn't until they were in the hallway again, the door closed behind them as she led them back to their apartment, that she spoke. ]

If I didn't know better, I'd think you were jealous back there.

[She made their goodbyes and they both smiled and left and out in the hallway, she made her ludicrous statement and he laughed.]

Jealous? Me? Ridiculous. I'd merely prefer not to have my pretend wife pawed at by someone whose hands should be fed to them, that's all. Honestly.

[Though, the suggestion bothered him if only because he had no real idea of what jealousy was, beyond what others did in the name of it. Fact was, he couldn't quite name half the feelings he'd been feeling since Chloe had walked into his life and that left him a little short.

He went over to their door, opening it and holding it for her.]

Well then? Do you plan on living out here?

[ Her eyes widened slightly after he spoke, a clear edge of irritation remaining with him despite the two of them being away from the person who had caused it to begin with. He was usually so quick to shift back to witty exchanges or being suggestive that she was momentarily left quiet.

Then he held the door and her eyebrows arched as she stepped inside after him, waiting until they were closed inside and alone to speak. ]

You're jealous. [ It was a statement rather than a question and she still looked surprised by it as she shook her head, turning to move deeper into the apartment only pausing to remove her shoes. ] I can't believe you're jealous.

[He laughed. An abrupt and harsh sound as he locked the door behind her, moving to get one of the ubiquitous bottles of alcohol he'd insisted they bring if he was doing this.]

I'm no such thing. What am I supposed to be jealous of? That some supposed murdering psychopath is going to sweep you off your feet? Don't be ridiculous, Detective.

[There was a bite to his words he wasn't paying attention to, pouring himself a drink, the frown still fixed to his face.]

Mm, of course you're not. And that's why you don't want your pretend wife being pawed at by another man.

[ She turned back toward him, moving closer as he poured his drink and catching sight of the frown on his face as she did. His refusal wasn't much of a surprise considering her own, but it was the way that he seemed irritated by the accusation that got her. ]

You wouldn't be so bothered by this if you weren't.

I'm not bothered. I'm... bothered by the fact you'd suggest I'm jealous. I'm the devil. The devil doesn't get jealous because he doesn't need to be.

[And why was that? Because the devil usually got whatever he wanted, Chloe being the rare exception in that she could, and did, say no to him. That she could choose another, implying he wasn't good enough. His eyes narrowed as he tipped back the glass, finishing the first drink and immediately pouring another.]

[ She watched that, tilting her head slightly before she shrugged and turned away from him again. ]

Fine, you're not jealous. It's better if you're not since you've got no reason to be jealous anyway. I'm not yours.

[ It wasn't an intentional bite, just a statement of facts. But she didn't mind the thought of it getting under his skin more than the evening already had. It was an odd reversal of roles to find herself not so bothered and him irritated, one that helped her see just how much he liked to push her buttons with the comments he made.

Sighing to herself, she left the room so she could head to her temporary bedroom to change clothes. ]

[Said quietly into his glass, Lucifer staring down at the liquid as if it could tell him what he needed to know -- what he didn't even know he wanted to know. He lifted his gaze to watch her go, the dress shimmering over her and reminding him of previous conversations. Which just reminded him of previous interactions, specifically, that night.]

If he touches a hair on your head again, Detective, I'll gladly make it my mission to give him the adequate punishment for his sins.

[ She half expected him to appear in the doorway before she got out of the dress and was surprised when she managed to make it through changing her clothes entirely without so much as a sound outside of the door.

When she made her way back out to find him, she was wearing what she intended to sleep in - a t-shirt and pair of sleep shorts. What she slept in was the one thing she refused to budge on when it came to her wardrobe for her time on the case. ]

Ready to hear the plan for tomorrow?

[It was dreadful. It was as if she was attempting to be as unflattering to her form as possible, likely to spite him. What was even more dreadful? He found himself aroused. He wanted to slide his hand up under that tshirt and--]

[It seemed the devil could be distracted.]

[ If she honestly wanted to spite him, she would've gone for long sleeves and pants. As she was now, all she was aiming for was her own comfort. Something most of her wife wardrobe lacked.

She gave him a look as she dropped down on the couch. ]

The plan. For tomorrow. You know, when our favorite neighbor shows up for dinner.

Right. Well, I could eviscerate him, if you like. Or we could call Maze over.

[He brought his drink over to the chair alongside the couch, settling into it and watching her with an unknowing predatory glint to his eye. His gaze skimmed up over her legs, watching her as if he was picturing her naked -- which he was.]

No. And no. We're catching him and bringing him in.

[ The look had her staring at him in return before she shifted closer to him, leaning against the arm of the couch nearest to the chair he was in. There, she pulled her legs up on the couch as she waved a hand to try to regain his attention. ]

Stop looking at me like that and listen.

If he's slaughtering people in my name, I believe I should have a say in his punishment. It's only fair, after all.

[He sipped at his drink, watching her shift where she sat and smiling over at her.]

Looking at you like what?

You're having a hand in helping to catch him. That should be enough.

[ One elbow rested on the arm of the couch and she propped her jaw against her hand with a sigh. ]

Like you're thinking about anything happening between us again.

For him to sit in a jail cell and get three meals a day? That's hardly a punishment, Detective.

[He intentionally looked over her again, meeting her gaze with heat in his.]

I very much am and that's not likely to stop. In fact, I think it's for the good of your facade if something does happen tonight. We've been woefully quiet over here for newlyweds. I can't have it getting out that Lucifer leaves his bride unsatisfied. I have a reputation to maintain.

You don't get to decide what his punishment is, Lucifer. Please don't give me a real reason to pull my gun on you.

[ One that didn't involve falling for what he kept insisting was true. ]

What happened to getting me out of your system? You know what the sex is like. Doesn't that mean you can move on now?

[He ignored the first bit, watching her as she spoke instead, licking his lips before taking another sip of his drink.]

It seems it might take more than one go for that, not that I didn't expect that. I'm going to need more than once with you, Chloe. We haven't done everything yet, have we? So many positions to try, so many places to play... I've barely started with you.

You've had all you're getting with me. You really need to move on.

[ She straightened up and let her arm drop as she paused, allowing only a couple of moments before she switched subjects in hopes of keeping him from continuing on that one. ]

You should get back here earlier tomorrow. He's supposed to be here for six, but he might show up early. We only need to make it halfway through dinner because you're going to get a call and say you need to go back to the office so we can give him an opening.

What I need is you on top of me without that silly t-shirt on.

[His eyes drifted down to her breasts, picturing them as he remembered them and letting out a soft hum.]

I do hope you don't expect me to actually leave you here with him.

[ His comment went ignored, as did the look he gave her. It wasn't worth trying to get him to stop thinking about things. ]

I fully expect you to leave me here with him. He's not going to try anything if you're here looking at him the way you did tonight.

Good. Then maybe the new plan should be to get him alone with me. If he's doing this in my name, seems only fair. And who better to divulge his secrets to? We could have done that from the start, Detective. I'm wondering if you weren't looking for an excuse to tease me for days, in which case all you had to do was ask.

I need proof. Having him confess to you isn't going to do us any good if that's all we have connecting him to anything. If that was an option, we would've just questioned him in the beginning and been done without all of this.

[ She looked him over, shaking her head. ]

Maybe you shouldn't come back. I can act like you're working late instead.
